CHANGES IN TEAM ANNOUNCED REPRESENTATIVE MATCH ON MONDAY Arrangements for the Canterbury-West Coast representative match to be played at Greymouth on the King’s Birthday holiday were completed at a meeting oi the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. D. Herman was appointed captain oi the Canterbury team, and L. Hewitt vicecaptain, Changes in the team as originally annduficed by the selectors were the substitution of J. K. McLean for G. M, Sellars as wing-threequarter; the replacement! of L. George by R. Proctor as a forward; J. J. Molloy has been selected as an emergency tack, and W. R. Paul as an emergency In place of R. Proctor. It was announced that a Wellington representative team would play Canterbury in Christchurch on July 8, and a West Coast team would play in Christchurch on July 15. Discussing the selection of the Canterbury team for next Monday's game, Flight Lieutenant J. D. Mackay (one of the selectors) said that the policy had been to field a team that would provide good play for the spectators, and give the ball air. To do that, the team had to have good scrummagers, as the scrum was the basis of real Rugby football. Only with a proper scrum, could a team provide bright back play, and there was no room for loose forwards. On the motion of Mr V. L. Jensen, seconded by Mr J, N. Clarke, it was decided to invite members of the Old Rugby Players’ Association, which was recently formed in Christchurch, to be present as the guests of the union at the Wellington v. Canterbury match In Christchurch. Mr R. W. Blazey moved that application should be made for the Inter-Island match to be played in Christchurch, and this was agreed to. It was stated that the North v. South Island University match would be played in Christchurch on July 22. Mr Blazey suggested that a time should be set for the announcement, of postponements of games scheduled, when the day was wet. It was decided that the postponements of games because of the weather should be announced not later than 11 o’clock on the Saturday morning concerned.
