NURSE MAUDE ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING HELD “We would like our subscribers each to get a new subscriber and U) spread the knowledge of the work ot the Nurse Maude District Nursing Assedation,” saifl Mr L. D. Cotterill, a member of the association’s trust board when ddalihg with the statement of accounts at the annual meeting of the association, held in Begg’s concert hall yesterday. Mr Cotterill said that, although the amount received in donations * during the : last yeat had been greater than that of the previous year, it was not nearly as large as that received some years ago -in 1935 and 1936. At the same time, the amount of work done by the association had increased considerably and had placed a great strain upon the nursing staff. The board, he said, was considering two important projects, both of which would be costly. One was to make provision for a pension scheme for the nurses; the other was the making of provision for temporary accommodation for elderly persons who were unable to care for themselves. Mr Colterill thanked the patients for their donations, which, he said, helped the association’s funds considerably. Mr P. B. Hume presided at the meeting. Mrs W. Mackay, for the Hospital Board, and Mrs R. J. McLaren thanked the nurses for the splendid work they are carrying out in the community. “We would like the public to know that we greatly appreciate their sympathy and their generous gifts,” said Miss M Corkill, matron of the association. She said that more practical help in the form of gifts had been received this year than formerly, especially from church guilds and schools She described the -work done by the association in co-operation with the Hospital Board, especially the care of discharged patients and the finding of homes for elderly persons. The Rev. A. V. Whiting, after thanking the association for much help given in urgent cases which had come under his notice, expressed surprise that public donations to so useful an organisation were not much larger.
