Valuable Stakes The £2500 stake for this year’s Great Northern Steeplechase has only once been equalled for a jumpers’ race in New Zealand. That was in 1921, when the race was worth £2500 and the Hurdle Race a like amount. This year the steeplechase will be the most valuable race over jumps in Australia or New Zealand. Riding Fees „ , , At the request of the New Zealand Jockeys’ Association the executive committee of the conference at its meeting In July will move a remit to authorise an increase in the losing fees payable to jockeys both on the flat and in jumping races. The executive is also sponsoring a machinery resolution which will prevent the wife of a stable employee from racing a horse. At present the wives of trainers, except in special circumstances where exemption has been granted, may not race horses in their name, but theie is nothing in the rules to prevent the wife of a stable employee from doing so. The president will move a new rule in which he asks for power to cancel in-his absolute discretion, the registiation of any horses effected in accordance with the rules of racing. TROTTING NOTES Two-Year-Old Classic „ , , When final forfeits for the New Zealand Sanling Stakes fell due on May 18,, 14 horses remained in the classic, the following being included in the number.— Admiration bv Grattan Loyal Bonny Logan (F G.
