£2500 DAMAGES AWARDED
MAN’S DEATH ON WATERFRONT (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, May 26. The sum of £2500 damages was awarded by a’ jury to-night in the action in which the Public Trustee, as executor and trustee of the estate of Kenny Lauchlan McKenzie, claimed £3OOO general damages and £25 18s funeral expenses from the New Zealand Shipping Company, Lid., and John Mill and Company, Ltd. Mr T, A. Gresson (Christchurch) appeared for the plaintiff and Mr A. N. Haggitt (Dunedin) for both defendants. The sum of £2OOO was awarded the widow and £250 to each child. McKenzie lost his life when he was struck by a sling and fell down the hatch of a motor-vessel at Bluff last August. ’
