COMPANY NEWS A.C.l.—The directors of Australian Consolidated Industries have decided to declare dividends as follows:—4J per cent, on preference shares for the half-year, and 3i per cent, on ordinary shares.— (P.A.) N.Z. Paper Mills Accounts.—The accounts of N.Z. Paper Mills (Dunedin), for the year ended March 31 show a net profit of £14,437, compared with £14,780 in the previous year, and £16.689 in 1942. There is £31,945 available. The directors, as previously announced, propose a final dividend of .4 peri cent., making 7 per cent, for the year (unchanged), requiring £BOOO, leaving £23,945 to be carried forward, against £23,508 brought in. The report states that ample supplies of wood pulp came to hand and the position regarding this raw material is now assured for some time to come. Turnover was fully maintained. The balance-sheet includes in the assets an item "estimated stock of lend-lease pulp, £199.000,” which is balanced by a contra on the liabilities side of a similar amount. Selfridges (N.Z.), Dividend.—Selfridges (N.Z.), Ltd,, for the year ended January 31, show a net profit of £3833, against a loss .of £1867 last year. Taxation provision is £11,546, compared with £10,710 last year. The directors propose a dividend of IJ per cent., the first for some years, absorbing £2375. leaving a credit balance of £2O to be carried forward, against a debit balance of £1438 brought in. Bank of Australasia.—Although gross earnings of the Bank of Australasia for the year ended October 11 fell by £46,015 at £1,487.022. a larger fall In expenses enabled an increase of £26.587 in net profit to be shown. Expenses decreased by £72.602 at £1,271,864. Charges in Australia and New Zealand were £649,481, against £714.572 for 1941-42. Net profit, as reported by cable in February, is £215,157. This Is £20,907 more than the amount of £194,250 required for the unchanged dividend of 6 per cent, less U.K. income tax, and the carry-forward is increased to £233,265. General Industries, Ltd.—The trading subsidiaries of General-Industries, Ltd. — Metiers, Ltd., and Metters. KFB Pty., Ltd. —show a profit of £87,555 for the year to December 31, compared with £97.989 for 1943. Of the profit the parent company

receives £84,926 as dividend. With its own profit at £933. its total profit for the year to February 29 is £85,859. against £86,384 for 1942. Ordinary dividend, steady at 10 per cent., requires £63,717, and preference dividend of 7 per cent.
