After the blitz of 1940, Savile Row, famous for being the centre of London’s most expensive. tailoring, was practically demolished. Mr W. Bankes Amery, leader of the United Kipgdom Food Mission to Australia and New Zealand, when addressing an audience in Christchurch last evening, related to what good use certain London firemen were now putting the basements of the former tailoring establishments.-“ Where tailors once sat cross-legged engaged on preparing the world’s most exclusive suits,’ ’he said,. “the.-firemen are now producing pigs.” ;
