BUSINESS RESTRICTED TO FEW STOCKS
There was a moderate turnover on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. Prices’ generally were well maintained, but business was again restricted to a few stocks. In the Government section the only declared seller was of 4 per cent, stock, due 1946-49, at £lO4 2s 6d, buyers at £lO3 17s 6d. Other issues were firmly held, and" business was recorded in the 2i per cent, stock, due 1947-49, at the unchanged price of £9B 7s 6d. STOCK SALES RANGIORA There was a good yarding of sheep at the weekly Ranglora stock market yesterday. Prices were:— Sheep.—Two-tooth ewes, 375; soundmouth ewes, 12s to 16s; failing-mouth ewes, 6s 3d to Us; rams, */ 2 gn to 4 , / 2 gns. Cattle. —Cow in profit, £7; heifer calves, £3 13s 6d. Pigs.—Slips, 20s to 255; weavers, 8s to 15s. ASHBURTON There was little variation in the prices of fat sheep at the Ashburton stock sale yesterday, compared with rates ruling at recent sales. Fat ewes realised from 12s 7d to 14s 7d for light-weights, up to 16s Id for medium quality, and up to 17s lOd for prime ewes. Fat wethers sold at 20s lOd to 24s lOd for light types, up to 28s 7d for medium grade, and up to 33s lOd for heavy wethers. Fat lambs made from 23s 4d to 25s 4d for light sorts, up to 27s for medium quality, and 30s 7d for prime lambs. LORNEVILLG (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, March 28. Good butchers’ wethers and ewes, which were in short supply at the Lornevllle sale to-day, sold at about Is a head more than last week’s prices. Values for freezing sorts remained unchanged. Prime quality wethers realised 32s to 355,. and medium sorts sold from 28s 6d to 30s. Good butchers’ ewes sold at 20s to 225; average, 6d to 18s 6d;' freezing sorts, 14s to 16s 9d, according to weight and quality. The small yarding of 44 lambs was of only medium quality. Export buyers secured the greater part of the entry at values in keeping with schedule rates. Prices for fat cows showed a slight improvement, and values were generally firm compared with last week. Prime quality bullocks sold from £l4 to £ls 15s; medium sorts, £l2 15s to £l3 10s; light-weights, £lO 5s to £ll. Extra prime heifers realised up to £l4 Ss; prime medium sorts, £lO 10s to £ll 10s; lightweights, £8 10s to £9. Good quality cows made from £lO 10s to £11; medium, £8 10s to £9 10s; aged sorts, £6 5s to £7 10S. PLEASANT POINT “ The Press ' Special Service TTMARU, March 28. About 2000 fat lambs were yarded at the Pleasant Point sale. The quality of the yarding was considered the best for many years. Competition was particularly keen and prices were at a high level. Values were as follows: Extra prime lambs, 32s Id to 35s 7d; prime, 29s Id to 31s Id; medium, 25s Id to 27s lOd. The two races of fat sheep contained only a few pens of wethers. Competition was keen and values were firmer by Is 6d. Extra prime ewes made up to 23s lOd, prime ewes 19s lOd to 21s Id, light to medium 14s Id to 17s Id, prime wethers 32s Id to 35s 4d, and light 26s Id to 28s Id. There was a capacity yarding in the store sheep section and values showed little variation on late rates. Best Romney cross ewes made from 39s 4d to 43s 3d, small to medium 27s 6d to 32s 6d, best ewe lambs 32s to 345, good 27s 6d to 30s, small to medium 18s 6d to 245, best rape lambs 22s 6d to 25s 9d, good rape lambs 19s to 21s 6d, medium 16s to 18s 6d, four-year Romney ewes 22s to 25s lOd, medium 18s to 21s, and rape ewes 12s 6d to 15s 3d.
