The Bishop of Melanesia (the Rt. Rev. W. H. Baddeley), who was in New Zealand recently, has left, according to air mail information received in Christchurch yesterday from Sydney, for his diocese in the Solomon Islands.

Mr S, C. F. Treweek, supervisor of the postal branch, Chief Post Office, Greymouth, has received advice of his appointment to the position of senior supervisor, postal branch, Christchurch.

“The committee reports with deep regret the death on active service of Mr Eric Bent, assistant meter tester,” stated the report of the electricity committee to the Christchurch City Council last evening. "News was received on March 6 that he had died from head injuries after an accident m Italy. Mr Bent was the son of Mr K. W. Bent, formerly chief melor reader, who recently retired alter nearly 29 years’ service with the council’s electricity department.” A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr A. Hadcn, clerk in the wiring department of the Municipal Electricity Department, was carried by the Christchurch City Council last evening.

Officers were elected as follows at the annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, held last evening in Christchurch; committee. Miss J. MacGregor, Messrs J. M. Hargreaves, H. R. Fountain, S. Jameson, H. R. Lake, L. L. fmith, and H. L. Wilkinson; exofficio members, Messrs C. H. Perkins and C. C. Holland; auditor, Mr Turner Smith.

Mr C. Miln, president of the Christcnurch Returned Services’ Association, last evening said he had sent a cable message to Major-General H. K. Kip--enberger expressing the sympathy of all returned soldiers in the serious wounds he had received. Approval of the president’s action was expressed by Archdeacon A. J. Petrie and Mr D. W. Russell, who said that Major-General Kippenberger .\ad attained his ambition to lead a New Zealand division and had had bad luck in being wounded so soon after achieving this ambition.
