National war savings investments in West Coast district decreased by *1992 16s in the five-weekly period ending January 22, 1944, but Otira, jn erne week, lodged £305 over the *-hristmas week, and this sum alone will enable Otira to fly its war savings " a g for 20 weeks. Greymouth was ‘he principal investor during the five weeks, with £1337; Hokitika was next J'lth £574; Runanga invested £474; o«ra £335; Blackball £169; Ross *159; Reefton £108; Brunnerton £73; ", u hJ ara £66; and Waiuta £33; a total °f £3332, against the quota of £5352. Blackball also made a splendid rer lOl , m the Christmas period, one weekly inyestment of £lO2 being almost sufficient for a two-weeks’ quota. Runanga also showed cash surpluses Jh two of the five weeks, with lodg??nts of £193 and £154. Ross conhhted an aggregate of £159 for five or only £1 short of full recrements.
