MINING Grey -River Dredging Co.—For the period from December 22 to January a, the dredge worked for 184 hours 45 minutes, dealing with 104,444 cubic yards, for the recovery of 299.15 crude ounces of gold. The December totals Were: 537 hours 45 minutes, 318,079 cubic yards, 1140.46 ounces of gold. The 1943 totals were: 3,528,114 cubic yards, 11,474.03 ounces of gold. Ngahere.—For the fortnight ended January 7, the Ngahere dredge produced 137 ounces of gold from 76,395 cubic yards, in 193 hours.

STOCK SALES “ The Press ” Special Service ST. ANDREWS TIMARU, January 7. About 80 head of steers, cows, and heifers comprised the fat cattle section at the St. Andrews sale to-day. Entries in the sheep section were vfery small. Valueson the whole for fat cattle held firm, with unfinished sorts in less demand than at recent sales. Prices realised were: prime heavy steers. £l3 17s 6d to £l7 7s 6d; light to medium. £8 17s 6d to £ll 17s 6d; prime heifers, £9 2s 6d to £ll 17s 6d: prime cows, £9 2s 6d to £ll 12s 6d; fat lambs, to 23s lOd; fat ewes, 10s lOd to 14s 6d; wethers, to 27s 4d.
