RANGIORA HEALTH CAMP
MORE THAN 60 BOYS AT PLEASANT POINT
The second boys’ health camp, under the auspices of the Rangiora Health Camp Committee, opened on Tuesday with a roll of more than 60 boys, drawn from various schools in Canterbury and the West Coast. Usually these camps are held at Rangiora, but as the camp buildings were required by the military authorities it was decided to hold the camp at Pleasant Point, South Brighton, where military buildings were made available.
The camp is under the supervision of Mr N. L. Wilson and the matron (Sister L. J. Barter), with a staff of efficient helpers. Periodical weighings are made and increases in weight recorded. The average increase for the last camp was 2|lb. A willing band of helpers from New Brighton gives valued assistance whenever they are called upon. One of the major difficulties whicb has to be faced by the staff is the lack of recreational amenities for the enforced rest periods. Gifts of old copies of illustrated papers, jigsaw puzzles, comic cuts, snakes and ladders, and similar games would be appreciated. If these were left at the Liverpool street carriers’ stand, care of Mr Ernest Smith, they would be delivered to the camp without delay. The organising committee is grateful to all who have sent supplies of vegetables and contributions of fruit, jam, cake, etc., for the children. The present camp will close on January 25, and the last camp, which will be for girls, will open on January 28, and close on February 25.
