The appointment of LieutenantJeneral Sir Iven Mackay, to be Ausralian High Commissioner to India i r as announced by Dr. Evatt, Minister f External Affairs, when he anlounced the appointment of the Hop. G. de L. Dalton to New Zealand. General Mackay had been suggested iy political correspondents as likely to 111 the New Zealand appointment, lowever, it was felt that such a disinguishcd soldier could give better ervice in India. As the Allied war iffensive from that country is increased, fuller Australian collaboraion will be required. General Mackay s a close personal friend of Lord V.avell. The Australian Prime Minister. Mr Curtin, said: “The appointment reiresents a notable step forward in the levelopment of Australia’s relations vith overseas countries. These aplointments will provide invaluable neans of contact with India and New Zealand, and will help to facilitate impire consultations.” PERFORMANCE OF MOSQUITOES 11 PLANES LOST AND 1000 SORTIES RAIDS INTO GERMANY Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. J. Royal Air Force Mosquitoes have put ip a remarkable record. During the ast six months they have made 1000 sorties, most of them into Germany, md only 11 Mosquitoes have been lost. They are now being used as nightightcrs over Britain. Last night, eight enemy raiders anproached the mast of England. Two flew inland. Both were shot down, one by a Mosjuito night-fighter.
