URGENCY OF PROBLEM EMPHASISED Help in the home for women who find it difficult to carry on through circumstances brought about by war conditions, was discussed at length at a meeting of the Housewives’ Union last evening, and it was decided to write to members of Parliament, the Federation of Labour, the secretary of the National Party, and the Minister of Health, reopening the question of domestic help for women. The Voluntary Helpers Scheme, which is conducted by members of the union, was reported to have become short of helpers. Mrs E. Townshend said she was willing to undertake a house-to-house canvass in any block in the Riccarton district to try to find women who would be willing to help others for a few hours at a time. She said that the need for domestic help was desperate in this particular district. A resolution was passed that the Riccarton branch of the union be asked to conduct a voluntary help-in-the-home block canvassing scheme and report to the central committee at its December meeting ,
