NEW TRANSPORT PLANE
CIVILIAN VERSION OF LANCASTER LONDON. Nov. 1. Britain has a new transport aircraft which is capable of carrying 50 passengers, or one of the heaviest cargoes of freight possible in present-day aircraft. Special hatches are fitted to allow bulky cargoes to be landed on to the aircraft. It is described as a civilian version of the Lancaster bomber. Mr T. O. M. Somvith, chairman of the company producing the aircraft, was reported to have said, while the aircraft was on the secret list, that Britain had a transport aeroplane which would form the main equipment for air transport services after the war. In his opinion, he said, it was the best of its kind in the world. Council of Sport.—The management committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association decided last night, after a long discussion, to ask the International Amateur Athletic Federation for a ruling whether the rules of the association permitted it to affiliate with the New Zealand Council of Sport, which consists of both amateur and professional organisations.— (P.
