YACHTING

CHRISTCHURCH CLUB The Christchurch Yachting and Power-Boat-Club had fine weather for the opening of its season on Saturday. There was a large attendance. The president (Mr J. W. Beanland) congratulated the members on their continued enthusiam and declared the season open.

The Mayor of Sumner (Mr J. E. Talt) said the club was doing a good work for the boys of the borough, and he wished it continued success.

Mr W. Beanland, the commodore, outlined the programme for the year.

MOUNT PLEASANT CLUB With 80 per cent, of its members away with the armed forces, the Mount Pleasant Boating Club held a successful opening day in the presence of a large attendance of friends. Commodore E. Neale said that as some of the members were now returning, the time had come to extend the activities of the club so that It could resume its place among the live organisations of the district. The president (Mr T. G. Buxton) introduced Cr. J. J. Hurley, who expressed his pleasure at the vitality of the club, it had a most promising future, he said, declaring the season open. The inter-club race, for which there was an entry of 30 boats, was won by the Mount Pleasant boat Vivid, sailed by G. Andrews.
