INQUEST INTO DEATH OF AIR TRAINEE

An inquest into the death of Leading Aircraftman Graham Alexander Gunn, aged 20, who died after receiving injuries in an aircraft accident, was opened before Mr E. C. Levyey, Coroner, yesterday. Leading Aircraftman Gunn, son of Mrs R S. Gunn, of Darr field, was seriously njured and the pilot. Pilot Officer Brian Charles Level, of Orakei, was killed when an aircraft of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, engaged in dual flying from a South Island station, crashed on Thursday. After evidence of identification had been given the inquest was adjourned sine die.

Otira Tunnel Freight.—Freight hauled through the Otira tunnel last week from the West Coast to Canterbury totalled 16,304 tons, compared with 8146 tons in the corresponding week of 1942, when traffic was disrupted by flood damage, and 13,336 tons in the corresponding week of 1941.
