CELEBRATION IN CHRISTCHURCH

Throughout the Catholic world the Feast of Christ the King was’honoured yesterday, and in Christchurch the occasion was celebrated by a procession of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by the Act of Consecration and the Benediction, which was given by the Very Rev. Dr. J. A. Kennedy, vicar Capitular. • Those who took part in and watched the procession numbered about 4000, and included many men in the uniforms of the armed services many sodalities of the parishes of Christchurch, a full representation of the clergy and religious of the different communities, and many children from the secondary and primarv schools in the Christchurch diocese The procession passed through the Cathedral, Marist Brothers, and Sacred Heart College grounds, which were beautifully decorated, the prevailing colours being the Papal white and gold On a dais erected in the convent grounds the Very Rev. Dr Kennedy gave the Benediction. Attending him were the Very Rev. Father T Heffernan. S.M., and the Rev Father J Hanrahan. The master of ceremonies was the Rev. Father J. Joyce who was assisted by the Rev Father G. Daly and the Rev. Father S O’Brien.

Dr., Kennedy said the splendid attendance of all sections of Catholics was an inspiration to all and a demonstration of the faith of the people. He spoke feelmglv of the great loss to the people the death of Bishop Brodle had been and appealed for prayers for the happy renose of'his soul.
