USE IN PARACHUTE OPERATIONS (Rec. 7 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 29. The jungle howitzer used recently with such success in Allied parachute operations in New Guinea is a specially designed Australian gun. It was planned and produced within six months to take the place of the ■ standard 25-pounder in areas formerly inaccessible to field artillery. • The gun, weighing only 2901b, breaks up into 12 major parts lor dropping by. parachute or sack carrying. It can be taken apart in 90 seconds and reassembled in 15Q seconds. The gun uses standard 25-pounder ammunition. Its production has aroused world-wide , interest among artillery experts, Britain _ for some time has been experimenting with a similar weapon. ; ;
