♦ 'DECREASE in number op BIRTHS During the Id months ending October 31, in Christchurch there was .a decrease of 343 in the number of births compared ■ with the same period last year, and a r decrease of 51 in the number •of marriages. The following are statistics for the month of October, last year’s figures being given in parenthesis:—Births, 265 (242); deaths, 166 (150); marriages by registrar, 22 (20); marriage notices, 118 (122). For the ,10 months ending October 31 the figures are:—Births, 2276 (2719); deaths, 1533 (1731); marriages by registrar, 217 (221); marriage notices, 1106
