RETIREMENT OF HEADMASTER
PRESENTATIONS AT TIMARU MAIN SCHOOL Representatives of educational bodies, parents, and ’ children of the Timaru Main School gathered at. the school on Thursday to bid farewell to Mr W. W. Carton, retiring headmaster. Mr Garton’s work during the 15 years for which he was headmaster of the school was eulogised by Mr A. M. Manning (chairman of the School Committee), the Mayor (Mr A. E. S, Hanan), Mr Stanley Smith (chairman of the Canterbury Education Board). Mr G. Griffiths (past chairman of the School Committee), and H. A. Scott (a member of the school staff). The speakers wished Mr and Mrs Garton the best of good health and happiness in their retirement. Mr Garton terminated his position as headmaster yesterday, and will leave for Christchurch next week. Mr D. J. Hepburn, who will succeed Mr Garton, will take up his duties on Monday. He was on the staff of the . school about seven years ago, and resigned the position of headmaster at the Oxford District HigmSchool to take up the Timaru appointment.
