PREFERENCE FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS

Sir,—Since my return after serving with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. I have repeatedly heard and read statements by the Prime Minister and several Government members of Parliament that, all things being equal, returned soldiers would get preference in Government employment. In view of this, is the re-cently-appointed Rehabilitation Officer at Christchurch a returned soldier, and further, why was the position not advertised, so as to give returned men a chance of applying? And what has the Returned Services’ Association to say? —Yours, etc..

Ist and 2nd N.Z.E.F. July 19. 1943. [This letter was referred to the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), but no reply has been received.— Ed., “The Press.”]
