OFFICIAL FORECASTS " The Press ” Special Service WELLINGTON. August 16. The weather forecast for Canterbury, Issued at 5 p.m., by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows; North-easterly to northerly winds, fresh at times near the coast. Weather fair to fine, with cool to moderate temperatures. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate variable winds, with westerlies freshening at times in the south. Cloud increasing and scattered rain developing in the south. Temperatures moderating. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather yesterday was fine and for the most part sunny. There was a light south-westerly wind in the morning and a light north-easterly in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 48.3 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and a light south-west wind was blowing. The barometer was steady at 30.05 in (101T.6 millibars).
