CONDITIONS OF AWARDS
OBJECT OF ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY Explaining the main object of the Royal Humane Society, that,, is, to bestow awards upon all who promptly risk their lives to save those of others, the president, Mr F. I. Cowlishaw, said at the annual meeting that the directors of the society thoroughly investigated the circumstances of all applications for awards. During the year three bronze medals, five certificates, and seven letters of commendation had been awarded, he said, bringing the number of awards made by the society since its formation 43 years ago up to 872. A number of other applications for recognition by the society had been received and investigated during the year where no awards had been made, chiefly because they did not disclose any risk of life to the proposed recipient. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, his Excellency the GovernorOeneral. Sir Cyril Newall; vice-patron. Canon W. S. Bean; president, Mr F. I. Cowlishaw; vice-president, the Hon. Sir R.
