C ANDIDATURE OF MISS McLEAN
Sir,—Miss Mary McLcai* tells the public that for the purpose of securing the National Party selection for Riccarton, she signed an undertaking, part of her nomination, without readin ■ it. It was a simple undertaking of less than a dozen typewritten lines, which could be read and understood in a few seconds. Those who received it with her signature, and acted upon it, were entitled to believe that it was an undertaking which would be honoured. To say this is a mere recital of fact. If Miss McLean feels that it reflects on her bona fides, .here is still opportunity for her to prove it. There is a lot to be said for upholding promises, written and unwritten.—Yours, etc T. N. GIBBS. Chairman, Canterbury Division, N.Z. National Party. August 8, 1943. •
