Before the brigade could PI i lntn , ii ctlon ’ the Arc bad a good hold, and flames were shooting through the roof of the two-storey building. u lc „ 01 IIOSO wcre laid on the bottom floor and a third was taken through (he roof of an adjacent building. the ground floor of which is occupied by Wright’s Commercial Agency. In a snort lime the fire was under control, but not before the ground offices occupied by J, A. Redpath and Sons, Ltd., bad been badly damaged and practically all the glass m (ho partitions, windows, and doors in the whole of the building wore broken. Office fittings suffered badly through heat and water, and it is not yet known what damage was done to the basement and a large quantity of goods stored there. A fireman. J. Williamson, had a narrow escape from injury when he was struck by a piece of masonry, which dented his helmet and then fell on a hand, which was gashed.
