Applicants may enter for both examinations. It is also proposed to hold the FOLLOWING EXAMINATIONS ON NOVEMBER 27th. in centres WHERE THERE ARE SUFFICIENT CANDIDATES:— INTERMEDIATE EXAMINATION; Shorthand, 130 words a minute: typewriting 50 words a minute. Entrants must have passed Senior Examination. SPECIAL EXAMINATION: Shorthand. 150 words a minute; typewriting 50 words a minute. Entrants must have passed Intermediate Examination. Exception is made only where Commissioner is satisfied that candidates who have not passed any Public Service Examination for Short-hand-Typists are up to the standard of the examination below the one entered for. Applications, accompanied by DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE OF EXAMINATIONS PASSED,, TWO TESTIMONIALS AS TO CHARACTER, AND COPY OF BIRTH CERTIFICATE, are invited up to Ist OCTOBER, 1943, for entr-y to a Teachers' Training College under Divisions A, C, D, or Home Science, Applications should be addressed to tire Education Board of the district in which the candidate’s home or usual place of residence is situated. To be admitted in DIVISION C an applicant must be a graduate of a recognised University, or have, as a matriculated student, satisfactorily completed a three years’ course in Agriculture or Home Science at a College recognised by the University of New Zealand, or hSve obtained some other educational qualification that in the opinion of the Director of Education is equivalent thereto. Candidates for admission as students of Division C may submit their applications in anticipation of their obtaining the necessary academic qualifications by the time the Training College opens. The minimum academic qualification for admission in DIVISION A is a pass in the University Entrance Examination or the School Certificate Examination. THE REQUIREMENT THAT A PASS IN THESE EXAMINATIONS MUST' HAVE BEEN OBTAINED PRIOR TO THE •YEAR IN WHICH APPLICATIONS FCR ADMISSION TO A TRAINING COLLEGE ARE CALLED FOR, HAS BEEN RELAXED FOR THE TIME BEING. THOSE SITTING FOR EXAMINATIONS MUST NOTIFY THE EDUCATION BOARD OF THE RESULT AT AS EARLY A DATE AS POSSIBLE. Other things being equal, preference will be given to—(a) Candidates who gained passes In the University Entrance and School Certificate Examinations prior to 1943; (b) Those with academic qualifications higher than the minimum. To be admitted in DIVISION D, an applicant must (a) be the holder of a New Zealand Teachers’ Certificate not lower than Class D, or a New Zealand Handicraft Teachers’ Certificate: (b) have been for such period as may be approved by the Director regularly employed in teaching in a registered school or schools; (c) have been approved for training by the Director of Education. The course of a student of Division U shall be for such period as the Director shall determine and shall be wholly professional or partly academic and partly professional, as the Senior Inspector may . recommend. . HOME SCIENCE students will be required to undergo a two-year course. Part of this course will be taken at Dunedin Training College in conjunction with the University of Otago School ot Home Science and part at approved post primary schools in various parts of New Zealand. Those who are successful in their applications will have an excellent opportunity of obtaining positions as Domestic Science Instructresses in the various education districts throughout New Zealand. Qualifications will be the same as those required for a Division A student —a pass in either the School Certificate or University Entrance Examination.
