Mrs Gerdt van Asch, director ot the circle, outlined the steps taken in its formation and thanked her secretary, committee, spinners, and men carders for their co-operation during the year The Rev. Blamires. on behalf of the spinners, presented Mrs Van Asch with a sheaf of spring flowers, and each member of the committee with a shoulder spray, in appreciation of their untiring work for the circle. The Sumner Patriotic Committee has sent a donation of £4O to the Mayoress’s Parcels Fund. Since the opening of the Red Cross Cafeteria at the Public Hospital in Dunedin, at the end of June, 1324 cups of tea have been served to returned men ot the present war. Each day the cafeteria is open from 9 a.m. until noon, and is staffed by the Voluntary Aids ana members of the local Red Cross sub-centres. Teams from Avonside Girls’ High School visited Timaru on Thursday to play the annual fixtures with the Timaru Girls’ High School. In the basketball match the result was 19 goals to 13 in favour of Timaru, and the Timaru team also won the hockey by 2 goals to 1. The Lyttelton Soldiers’ reception committee has given to the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council a donation of £250, of which it asks that £IOO be ear-marked for the Mayoress’s Parcels Fund.
