APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE
DECISIONS OF NO. 2 BOARD Appeals for five employees of the Christchurch City Council came before the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday. Mr J. S. Barnett presided. The eases of two other employees of the council were adjourned because both men 'had four children. When stating the grounds of the council’s appeal for its accountant, Alfred Merlin Hosklng, the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) said that Hosklng was the only member of the staff left who had the necessary experience and qualifications for the position. Hoskins’s work Included the secretaryship of the Welcome Club and various duties connected with E.P.S. activities. Mr Feast said that the specialised knowledge required for the position would be difficult for even a qualified accountant to acquire. Mr S. L. Wright, a member of the board, said it would be hard for the council to find a man to replace Hosking, "but,” he said, "we ask all employers what efforts they have made to replace their grade 1 men.” Only when all sources of inquiry had been exhausted, he said, would the board consider a sine die adjournment. This ease was adjourned for review in three months, the council in the meantime to attempt to replace Hosklng.
