FIJIAN TROOPS PRAISED
TIRELESS WORKERS AMERICAN’S OPINION from Our Own Correspondent SUVA, June 9. Writing to friends in Suva, an American officer who was on the ship which took the first Fijian troops to the forward areas, speaks highly of their con. duct. . ~ . “Our trip was most interesting—ana your native people most wonderful — and, in fact, they set a new all-time high record for work aboard ship, and for cleanliness and absolute obedience and politeness. They are, by far, the finest and highest type of native people in this part of the world, believe me, says the writer. “I have never in my life seen such tireless and enthusiastic workers in the military or anywhere else as those troops. They are amazing. How I would like to see them in action—or even better still, to have an outfit of them to command in action myself. They kept the ship spotless—and their conduct was perfect. They loved the food, and the movies, and everything else. Our men thought they were tops.”
