PERSONAL Advice has been received by Mr and Mrs M. F. Samson, West Lyttelton, that their son, Pilot Officer W. Samson, who is serving overseas, has promoted to flying officer as from October last. Death of Waterslder Edward Church, a water§lde worker, who resided at 70 Aldwins road. Linwood, collapsed in Norwich quay, Lyttelton, yesterday morning and died within a few mlntes. An inquest will be held. Patriotic Carnival Several functions arranged for this week for the various queens in the queen carnival contest in aid of he patriotic funds have resulted in substantial sums being paid in. These included a dance organised by the police, a shop and fun parlour,, and several raffles with big prizes. To-morrow afternoon a parade will be held in aid of the Nursing Services Queen. Derry’s Military Band will be in attendance, and the fire brigade and ambulance and nursing services will take part. In the evening a “house which is to be built in the Oxford street playground will be set on fire and a Darktown fire brigade will be called upon to deal with the conflagration. GRAND PARADE.
