ARMED FORCES APPEALS
* DECISIONS OF NO. 1 BOARD The case of a "man employed by "the biggest breeder and producer of pigs in the South Island," came up for review before the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday Mr L. A. Dougall. presenting the appeal of E. J. B. Hickmott for his son. Geoffrey Ewin Hickmott, a grade 1 man, said that in 1940 Hick- | mott senior had 35 pigs altogether, and I that his herd now totalled nearly 1000. I Hickmott had contracted in 1941 to supply 1500 baconcrs a year, and by now had almost reached that figure. ‘‘Skilled labour is essential for raising pigs,” said Hickmott, "and I am prepared to let the whole scheme drop if I lose my son's services.” The appeal was adjourned sine die on the ground of the public interest. Cauliflower Production Describing Kenneth Edward Lehrs as "the best grower of cauliflowers in the district,” Mr A. J. Malley, for P. E. W. Lehrs, appealed against Lehrs being called up for service. Mr Malley said that Lehrs, jun„ who was a grade 1 man, and single, cultivated all the crops grown on the 54J acres owned by his father. The father was incapable of doing any hard work, said Mr Malley.
