REID One of the best known wopl auctioneers in Otago, Second-Lieutenant D. Geoffrey Reid has been reported as killed in action. He enlisted for service and was trained at an artillery camp in Canterbury. Re leaves a wife and three children.
A son of the late Mr p. Reid, a Dunedin solicitor. Mr Reid was born in Dunedin. He was educated at St, Andrew’s College, Christchurch, apd joined the firm of Donald Reid arid Company, of which his grandfather was founder, He learned the wool trade at Bradford. England and after his return to New Zealand he joined the family firm in the wool-broking department, when he conducted iris first auction as a selling agent, Mr Reid had instant command of the buying benches, and when he stepned down from the rostrum buyers representing every purchasing country including the United States, Germany and Japan, gave him hearty applause' From that time, hi? place in wool trading was established- He became a direptor of QonaJd Reid and Company, and his initiative was largely responsible for the erection of the nmpany’s modern wool store and depot at Logan Point Dunedin. In sporting fields, Mr Held was a golfer and tennis enthusiast.
