INSPECTION FEE REQUIREMENTS
REPORTED BREACHES BY SOME FRUITGROWERS
Some fruitgrowers are apparently failing to pay inspection fees as required, according to the orchard instructor of the Department of Agiiculture (Mr A. R. Grainger), who said yesterday that there was a wide discrepancy between the number of inspection fee stamps being sold and the quantity of fruit sold. It had become necessary, he said, to take steps to see that the requirements of the regulations would be more strictly adhered to,in the future.
Fruitgrowers should be aware, Mr Grainger said, that inspection fees still had to be paid on fruit sold by them direct to the consumer." In the case cf fruit sold to- the Internal Marketing Division the fees were paid by the division in bulk, and no inspection fee stamps had to be affixed. In all other cases stamps of Jd a half case and Id a bushel case of apples, pears, or lemons had to be affixed, or by special arrangements with the department permission would be given to those who handled large quantities of private orders to obtain exemption from the actual affixing of stamps to packages, but they were required to pay monthly on a return of the of fruit sold.
