OBITUARY

MR WALTER BOWLES

Mr Walter Bowles, who died in Christchurch recently, was a former railway district traffic manager at Auckland and Dunedin. Mr Bowles, who came to New Zealand with his parents from England, joined the Railway Department in Christchurch as a cadet in 1878, and retired after 45 years’ service. In 1909 he was appointed district traffic manager in Auckland. In 1915 he was transferred to a similar position at Dunedin, where he remained until his retirement. Mr Bowles was an early member of the Pioneer Cycle Club. He was also a member of the Remuera and Christchurch Bowling Clubs. He is survived by his widow and two daughters.
