HOME GUARD

Sir, —I see that all over the Dominion men arc charged and fined for not attending parades. How is that there Has not been one case on the West Coast? In the Reefton district' numbers of men who have been drawm in ballots and been appealed for have had the appeals held over subject to joining the Home Guard. Numbers of these have not even attended one parade and do not intend to do so if they can get out of it. It is not faiy to the other members of the Home Guard. If a few are taken before the Court and fined they will realise their duty to the Dominion.—Yours, etc., SLEEPER. March 24, 1943. tAn officer at Southern Military District Headquarters made, the following statement: "Many members of the Home Guard on the West Coast arc miners, and. as such, arc not a< present compelled to attend Home Guard parades."]
