VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 2. The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) to-day received Dr. L. Bossard, representative in New Zealand of the' International Red Cross Society. Later, his Excellency received Mr F. Scott Miller, Dominion president of the Boys' Brigade. Captain C. E. Barnes, who has been awarded the Military Cross, was born in Christchurch and is a son of Mr E. J. Barnes, who some years ago was engineer to the Heathcote County Council, Captain Barnes was educated at the Llnwood School and qualified as an engineer at Canterbury University College. Mr lan Coster, of Christchurch, who was formerly on the reporting staff of "The Press,” has been commissioned in the Royal .Marines, after serving in the ranks, states the special correspondent of the New Zealand Press Association in London. He was an outstanding New Zealand journalist, and wag on the staff of the “Evening Standard” In London before enlisting. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr D. Arnott, who was a senior master and assistant supervisor of the evening classes at the Christchurch Technical College for about 13 years, was carried at a meeting of the College Board of Governors last evening. Dr. C. R. Burns has been nominated as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.—(P.A.) Flying Officer Eric Milliken, of Springfield, who was recently promoted, has been appointed to a Lancaster flying squadron in England. Messrs B. F. Anderson, J. F. Scott, R. E. Clark, R. H. Marks, M. G. Petrie, and L, L. Smith, of Christchurch, have been admitted to associate membership of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand.
