On the first 'Friday month members of t'hfe' rriuslc circle of the Canterbury Women’s Club arrange a programme of musical items for the entertainment of club members. Last night’s programme included items by the following:—Mrs Walter Ross,. Misses Doreen Udell,‘Monica McQau&hßft .. an(l Iscbel Wright (songs) Miss Eva Chnsteller (violin solos) and. Cullman wap thq,.accompanist. • Mrs Christmas-Harvey, controller ot the Animals’- A;R.P unit of the E.P.S., has returned from-a visit to the West Coast, where she has been giving lectures, broadcast addresses, and talks in schools on-first aid-to injured animals. A public meeting was held at the Town Hall, the Mayor of Greymouth (Mr F. A. Kitchingham) presiding, and so much interest was aroused that an animals’ A.R.P. unit was formed for Greymouth. Girls from the Christchurch Post and Telegraph Department, usually seen bicycling briskly along on their rounds, were in a new role yesterday when they took part in slow bicycle races as part of a street day for “Miss England.” Girls from the staff of the Railways Department also took part. The girls’ intense concentration and the few crashes drew laughtei from, the large crowd which had gathered in Hereford street Still more centres for women of the forces serving in the Middle East have recently been established by Miss Jean Begg, who, after acting as general secretary of the Auckland Y.W.C.A for some years, left in -.031 to become national general secretary in India. Burma, and Ceylon, and was then sent in 1941 to Egypt to open leave hostel? and centres for women of the Allied forces. Two new centres at Basra and Beirut were opened some months ago 9nd the latest to be established is at Teheran, on. the Persian Gulf. This is the great occasion.
