FINE EFFORT BY BOYS IN HOLIDAYS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, February 25. The Minister of Manpower (the Hon. A. McLagan) announced to-day that 5140 boys had spent all or most of their holidays on farm work, and there were probably a great many more o; whom his department had no record. He thanked the boys for the vay they had come to the help of farmers, and expressed appreciation of the co-opera-tion of all who had helped with the scheme. Schoolgirls had also helped by going fruit-picking, and their work had won high praise.
Remaking of Scarborough Road.-* The Sumner Borough Council, at it* meeting this week, decided to obtain a contract price for the remaking 0 Scarborough road, which, it was reported, was rapidly deteriorating, an was unsafe for pedestrians.
