The loss suffered by the farming community by the death of Mr H. D. Acland. of Christchurch, was referred to by the president (Mr D. H. Cockburn) at a meeting this week of the Otago Provincial Council of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried.
Messrs J. S. Roscoe, J. H. Terry, J. A. Barton, C. C. Harris, and A. J. Cleverley have been elected members of the Government Railways Appeal Board, states the Gazette—(P.A.)
Advice has been received that a British Empire medal has been awarded to Sergeant John McKenzie, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Alex. McKenzie, of Hororata. Sergeant McKenzie left New Zealand with the Ist Echelon and was one of the first soldiers bidden farewell at Hororata. He was educated at the Hororata Public School and the Christchurch Technical College. Before his enlistment he was on the staff of the New Plymouth Post Office. He has a younger brother serving in the New Zealand Navy.
