JUNIOR TOURNAMENT The Canterbury Croquet Association’s junior tournament was continued yesterday on the St. James’ and Elmwood lawns. Following were the results:— At St. James’ A Championship.—Section 6: Mrs Fuller beat Mrs Service. 26-16; Mrs Pargeter beat F. Dunn, 26-24. Play-off of Section Winners,—First round: Mrs Fuller beat Mrs Gyde. 26-24; Mrs Roxburgh beat Mrs Day, 26-18; Mrs Brehaut beat Mrs Cramond, 26-17. Second round: Mrs O'Malley beat Mrs Travis, 26-15: H. Rossiter beat Mrs Ward. 26-4. Handicap Singles.—Second round: Mrs Marshall beat Mrs Thomas. 26-4; Miss Bennett beat Mrs Lattaway, 26-4; Mrs Billows beat Mrs Fuller; F. Dunn beat Mrs Purse, 26-24. Third round; Mrs Marshall beat Miss Billows, 26-23. Handicap Doubles.—Semi-finals: Mrs Marshall and Miss Bennett beat Mesdames Donaldson and Lattaway, 26-17. At Elmwood B Championship.—Semi-finals: Mrs Stuart beat Mrs Lattaway, 26-21; E. Wedd beat Mrs Boyce, 28-14. Handicap Singles.—First round: Mrs Day beat Mrs McCracken, 26-17. Second round: Mrs Day beat Mrs Spicer, 26-13: Mrs Cramond beat Miss Angell, 26-22. Third round: Mrs Donaldson beat Mrs Cramond, 26-19; Mrs Day beat Mrs Brehaut, 26-14. SOUTH CANTERBURY TOURNAMENT < The South Canterbury Croquet Association's championship tournament began at Ashburton yesterday. Nearly 200 entries from various parts of the South Island have been received for the seven events, which will be played on the Ashburton, Waireka, and Allentob greens. The tournament was opened by the Mayor of Ashburton (Dr. J. Connor). Mrs H. Allchurch (president of the South Canterbury Croquet Association) and Mrs H. Smallbone (president of the Ashburton Club) also spoke. Results up to yesterday afternoon were:— Handicap Doubles.—Mesdames Denley and Warriner-beat Mesdames H. Martin beat Mesdames Landels and Mitchell, 26-14; Mesdames Patchett and Queree beat Mesdames Hedges and Vial, 26-18.
RESULTS AT GREYMOUTH
Rain again restricted play yesterday in the annual West Coast croquet tournament, the greens being wet and heavy. They were swept, but little play was accomplished.
Results were:— Championship Singles (first round).— First life: Mrs G. Whibley (Christchurch) beat Mrs E. Moss (Greymouth), 26-6; Mrs Pepper (Christchurch) beat Mrs Whibley, 26-21; Mrs Jf. W. Hannan (Greymouth); beat Mrs' Nottle (Westport),' 26-22; Mrs Penn , (Christchurch) beat Mrs. Wicks. (Westport), 26-7. Second life; Mrs Nottle (Westport) beat Mrs Penn (Christchurch)/ 26-23; Mrs McCracken (Runanga) beat Mrs Wicks (Westport), 26-10. Handicap Singles (under six bisques).—; First round: Mrs J. Gilbert (Westport) beat Mrs A. Warnes (Greymouth), 26-17. Handicap Doubles.—First round: Mrs Wicks and Mrs J, Robertson (Westport) beat Mrs Chivers and Mrs Sandman (Greymouth), 26-25; Mrs J. S. Robertson and Mrs J. W. Hannan (Greymouth) beat Mrs Holmes and Mrs McLellan ‘(Christchurch), 26-18.
