PRISONERS SENTENCED
CHARGES OF BIGAMY AND INDECENT ASSAULT
(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 24. A period of reformative detention of five months was imposed on Elizabeth May Anderson, aged 27, of Christchurch, when she appeared for sentence in the Supreme Court on a charge of bigamy. Mr Justice Kennedy, in passing sentence, said that the prisoner, who had deceived the man who went through the form of a second marriage at Invercargill, was in need of medical treatment.
Henry George Small, aged 48, of Tuatapere, who pleaded guilty yesterday to four charges of indecently assaulting girls whose ages ranged from seven to 10 years, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent but cumulative with the present period of three months’ imprisonment the prisoner is serving for assaulting a constable.
