Greymouth J.C. Acceptances for Greymouth meeting close at 9 p.m. to-day. —l3 Death of Valuable Juvenile Riccarton stables suffered another severe loss this week in the death of the two-year-old Supercharged, who had been under treatment for internal trouble since before the recent matinee meeting. He was reported to be making good progress until he had a relapse over the weekend, and died on M onda W Supercharged was a big. upstanding gelding by Phaleron Bay from Golden Rod, by Diacquenod from Moorfield, dam also of Crown Area, and cost Mrs J. W. Pankhurst, of Riccarton, 175 guineas as a yearling at Trontham. Shortly after his first appearance in public, at a juvenile parade at Riccaiton last August, he was sold for 300 guineas to the Washdyke owner-trainer, G. H. Paul, former owner of Gold Salute, but Paul was unable to complete the contract at the time, and when he was able to do 1 so Mrs Pankhurst had decided to carry on with the youngster. Supercharged won his first race, a division of the Trial Plate at the North Canterbury meeth’g at Banks Peninsula. Sent out first choice for the Welcome Stakes, he was a moderate third, and again tailed in the Pioneer Handicap at Riccarton. Taken to Wingatui on Boxing Day. he caused a mild surprise by winning the Hopeful Ha' - dican from the Welcome Stakes winner, Royal Flight, with the McLean Stakes winner. Invulnerable, in fourth place. His next and last race w.is in the Nursery Handicap at Trentham. in Which he ran third to Screen and First In. In all he won £435. Supcrchargod's death followed closely on that of another very promising two-year-old. Islam, who also died from irtm—al trouble. At Omoto
The Greymouth Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday promises to be one of the most successful hold at Omoto for some time. The fields will be much larger than has been the case in recent years, and will include many good-class horses, while there will be several making their first appearance on the present circuit. Trained at Westport Gunyah’s recently reported sale was made to a Westport owner, who nominated him for the Greymouth meeting, but the Myosotis gelding Is -of expected to make the tfip. ‘ ’ ■ A Strong Jumping Team W. E. Hazlctt has a team of six jumpers at work at Invercargill. They are Astral Flame, Anglo-French, Colonel Rouge, Noko. Spendthrift, and True Range. The last-named Is only a four-year-old. and a half-brother to Ballybrit.

Acceptances To many followers of , light-harness racing the fields at Addington on Saturday are disappointing in numbers, lor in several races the support accorded is meagre. The Midsummer Handicap, a 4mm 31sec class race, finds only six horses eligible to race, and the experience of other clubs has shown that there are lew horses in this class in training or sufficiently advanced to fake part. The result, however, Is instructive and may guide the Metropolitan Committee In framing the programme for its Raster meeting. The 4min 40sec class Trial Handicap has also drawn a disappointing acceptance and eight horses of model att class provide a poor field tor a race at headquarters. The 'remaining races however, include the material for stirring contests, and the most interesting race of the day may be the Trotting Free-for-All, in which 10 of the best trotters in New Zealand will face the starter. Unlike the Metropolitan Free; for-AlI none of the horses claims aj earlier engagement, and the • field fe hot likely to be reduced in numbers.
The Free-for-All No fewer than eight ot the 11 ho -es accepted for in the Metropolitan * ee-for-All are engaged earlier in the day in the A. I. Rattray Handicap. Although form over two miles may not be a reliable guide for a mile ahd a qcarter race in which all start off the one mark, the form In the longer race wll be watched with interest. Over the two mile journey Loyal Rey, Haughty, and Fine Art arc regarded as the btst stayers and will concede up to J6 yards start while Burt Scott, 24 ytrds, will concede 12 yards to the sprint, recordholder Gold Bar. The appearame of Bui t Scott and Gold Bar ■ should’ result in spirited betting, and after Hurt Scott s brilliant display last Saturda-. a great tussle may be expected. Haughty- tan sprint as well as stay, as she proved when, she finished second Lo Gold Bar in the Free-for-All in Nwember after recording 2min 35 2-ssec.
A Successful Trainer When J. Young trained Rival Chiel to win the opening event a’ Ashburton on Boxing Dav. he scored rn overdue win, but it was only the tore miner of several more, as at each meetiig since at which he has been represefted, he has led in a winner. The win at Ashburton was followed by Millisle winning on the second day of the Canterbury Park meeting, and by Erjiack at Greymouth. Then came successes by Syncopate at the Matinee Meeting, aid by Parrish Guide at Forbury Park. A trip was then made to Wellington, wlv-re Rival Chief was again successful, the seventh win in as manv weeks waf gamed when Millisle won’ at (he New Brighton meeting at Addington on Siturday. Six of the winners were driten by R. Young, son oi the trainer.
