DOBSON AND WALLSEND MINES
CONTROL HOARD PERSONNEL
The Hon. P. C, Webb, Minister ol Mines, announced yesterday that the Control Board to be set up lor the Dobson and Wallsend mines would have five members, as fohows: The superintendent of State mines, or his nominee, as chairman, a representative Irom each of the two unions, and the manager of each mine, The board's duty would be to investigate working conditions with a view to the maximum economic production of coal. The idea was to utilise the practical knowledge of Hie men working in the mines and the knowledge of the managers for the benefit of all concerned.
The pit committees would comprise the manager of each mine or his nominee, a representative of the hewers, and a representative of other classes of workers in the mine. These committees would make inspections of the mine workings at least once a month, study the working methods and conditions. and make recommendations for improvement to the managers and the board. Any major matter would, of course, be referred by the board to the department.
"The operation of the pit committees and the control board." said the Minister. "is pure y an experiment. If it is successful, I hope to see it extended to all other mines."
Divorce Granted.— ln the Supreme Court yesterday, Mr Justice Northcroft granted Luma Elizabeth Dromgoolc (Mr L. J. Hensley) a decree nisi in divorce, to be moved absolute after three months, against Walter Victor Dronigoole The petition, on the ground of adultery, was nndelcndcd.
