1 COLONEL G. D. POLLOCK’S CAREER Lieutenant-Colonel G. D. Pollock. M.8.E., who enlisted as a private the day after war broke -out, and who was recently promoted to his pl.'sent rank, is a son of Mr David Pollock, 80 Nursery road, Christchurch.

Lieutenant-Colonel Pollock was born at Temuka. and was educated at the Christchurch Technical College* While serving his apprenticeship with a Christchurch surveying firm he continued his education at Canterbury University College, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. For some time he was employed as a draughtsman by the Railways Department in Christchurch, and at the age

of 22 he left Christchurch for Wellington, and continued this work. Later he joined the staff of (he Shell Oil Company and went to Auckland. When visiting London he was offered a position there, but decided to return to New Zealand, and began working for Messrs Schofield and Company, of Auckland.

Four years ago Lieutenant-Colonel Pollock flew south to visit his father and his brother in Rangiora. Since then his father has not seen him. but has frequently heard from him. When he sailed,with the Ist Echelon he held the rank of lieutenant and was officer commanding a light aid detachment of the Engineers.
