GRAIN AND PRODUCE More wheat has been received by Christchurch merchants in the last week, and it is expected that with fine weather considerable quantities will be coming forward within the next few days. An indication of yields is still lacking, but the quality of samples so far is described as quite good. Otherwise the market is described, as extremely quiet for this time of the year. There is virtually no market for Carton oals, and samples of Algerian oats are comparatively few with no change in business (2s 8d to 2s 9d on trucks). Business In ryegrass is also quiet, merchants not being disposed to buy much because of export uncertainties, and the number of samples! offering is still relatively small. The new wheat price for the current crop on March Tuscan basis, is:—6s 2da bushel (less halfpenny a bushel deduction retained for insurance compensation fund); Hunters, 6s 4d (less deduction): Pearl and Marquis. 6s 6d and 6s 8d respectively (less deduction); subject to progressive monthly increments from AprU 1 to July 1, Inclusive, of one penny a bushel, and in August and September of a halfpenny a bushel, all prices f.o.b.
