♦ - POSTMEN TO CANVASS HOUSES TO-DAY City postmen and postwomen will make their big house-to-house silver coin drive to-day with the aim of raisins at least £6OOO towards the total of £IO,OOO sought for the sick and wounded and for parcels for prisoners of war. Boy scouts and Red Cross Society helpers and members of the Post Office staff will also help in the drive. The hope is expressed that as many families as possible will contribute 'the cost of one food parcel, £l. More than £2600 has already been received from business houses and in contributions from people who will be going away over the week-end. These private contributions, in almost every case of £l, have been posted in. and it is suggested that those who are going away and wish to help could do likewise. or leave their contributions at post offices. In addition to visiting every house, the collectors will make a street collection between 8 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Recent contributions in advance include; £SOO from the Red Cross Society; Millers. Ltd., £100; Beath and Company, Ltd,, £SO; T. Armstrong and Companv, £2O; Amuri Motors. Ltd.. £2O; R.S.A.. £lO 10s; Canterbury glass, oil, and colour merchants, £10; staff of Hay’s, Ltd.. £ 16, from collection, and eight liberty bonds.
