CIVIL DEFENCE
I.\STRUCT!ON SCHOOL TO START NEXT MONTH
(P.A.)
WELLINGTON, January 15,
The Minister of Civil Defence (the Hon. D. Wilson) announced to-day that a civil defence school of instruction under the operational training branch of the National Service Department will be inaugurated on February 1 with a three weeks’ intensive course of instruction for 26 trainees, which the principal Emergency Precautions Services throughout New Zealand have been invited to nominate.
The syllabus will include general subjects, as well as specialised courses. The time-table has been designed to incorporate as many practical demonstrations as possible, including field work and the use of improvised materials. The instruction of trainees will be undertaken by a panel of qualified lecturers who are experts in their particular subjects, and will be directed towards qualifying trainees on their return home to impart the knowledge gained at the school to associates, who in turn can train nr assist with the training of personnel. Those passing out of the school will be issued with local training officers' certificates, a competency standard. The syllabus will be available as a guide to training locally, and the scheme itself has been framed with the object of placing training generally on a sound and uniform basis.
