DERAILMENT ON WEST COAST
SERVICES DELAYED
Caused, it is thought, by the breaking of an axle on an L.A. waggon loaded with coal, there was a somewhat serious derailment on the Reef-lon-Greymouth mixed goods and passenger train between Hinau and Mawheraiti, about 4.20 p.m, yesterday, Fortunately, only one truck was derailed, but it was sufficient to dislocate traffic. The track was damaged for about a quarter of a mile to such an extent that it will not bo restored before morning at the earliest. The result was that passengers had to be transhipped. Rail-car passengers from Westport and Grcymouth changed over at the scene of the derailment. The rail-car to Christchurch had to be held at Stillwater for more than two hours and a half, and was late in leaving that station. It reached Christchurch at 12.40 a.m.
Greymouth and Westport passengers were also delayed in reaching their destinations by two and a half hours, it is expected that services will be resumed under normal conditions this morning.
