11 ON. J. A. HAN AN’S REFERENCE
(P.S.S.i DUNEDIN, January 15. Tho facilities for free education in New Zealand were mentioned by the Chancellor of the University of New Zealand Mho Hon. J. A. Hanan) in his annual address to the University Senate at Dunedin. He gave figures lo show the way the road had been made easier for young people to obtain more readily the benefits of higher education.
The extent to which free places at post-primary schools were used was shown in the following table:— No. of Free Place

Of this number, no fewer than 2549 were holders of scholarships, bursaries, exhibitions, or studentships (training college students).
