(P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 10,

The Govornor-Gcncntl (Sir Cyril Nowall) and Lady Nowall, attended by Major C. J. Hollaiid-Marlin. left Wellington this afternoon for Marlon and Wanganui.

The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W, E. Parry), who will leave Christchurch for the West Coast to-day, will open the Greymouth centenary memorial Plunket and rest room on Tuesday morning. The Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) will be tendered a dinner by members of the Westland County Council at Hokitika on Monday evening in recognition of his services to local-body progress on the West Coast. The Minister of Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) and the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) arrived from Wellington yesterday morning, and later left for Westport. The Minister of Civil Defence (the Hon. D, Wilson) arrived from Wellington yesterday, and then loft for Dunedin. The Hon. J. O'Brien (Minister of Transport) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Mr R. G. Macmorran, Undcr-Sccre-lary for Lands, has been appointed a director of the State Advances Corporation, according to a Gazette notice. (P.A.)

Mr T. H. Langford, South Island zoning officer, left for the West Coast yesterday on zoning business. He will return next week.

Advice of his promotion as first lieutenant has been received by Mr and Mrs G. J. Will, of Cambridge terrace, from their son. Lieutenant George Will, who is serving in New Guinea. Lieutenant Will was in New Guinea before the war, being employed by the Vacuum Oil Company on exploration and development work. He joined the Australian forces when the Japanese entered the war.

Mr J. J. B. Connor, district officer of the Transport Department, who will leave on transfer for Wellington next month, was presented with a travelling rug on Wednesday from members of the District Oil Fuel Committee, of which he is a member. The presentation was made by the District Oil Fuel Controller, Mr V. C. Lawn. Colonel W. T. Churchward, regional E. Commissioner, returned to Christchurch from Wellington yesterday. The following military appointments are gazetted: Major R. H. 8011, New Zealand Staff Corps, ceases to bo seconded to the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force and is reposted to the New Zealand Staff Corps with the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel and assumes temporary command of a South Island unit; Lieutenant-Colonel C. A. L. Treadwell ceases to be seconded to the 2nd Now Zealand Expeditionary Force, and is reposted to the New Zealand Army Legal Department and appointed Deputy-Judge Advocate General, in place of Lieutenant-Colonel F. L. G. West, who is seconded to the National Service Department.—(P.A.)
